Balck and Byte Black and Byte

Black and Byte is a web interface aiming to explore the music notation adopted in 1968 by Franco Donatoni in his work Black and White n.2 (exercises for 10 fingers). Through such an interface, it is possible to compose new exercises adhering to Donatoni's style and to generate a random score in Common Western Notation.

MusiCLILy Music Petri Nets

Music Petri nets are a mathematical formalism originally conceived to model concurrent processes. When applied to music analysis and composition, such a tool proves to be suitable to express the results of musicological investigations. This web application, based on the IEEE 1599 standard, contains a multimedia web player integrated with a Petri net viewer. The goal is to show and navigate the results of musicological analysis while listening to music and watching the score.

Music Blockly Messiaen's Modes of Limited Transposition

Modes of limited transposition are musical modes originally conceived by the French composer Olivier Messiaen for a tempered system of 12 pitches per octave. They are defined on the base of symmetry-related criteria used to split an octave into a number of recurrent interval groups, made of aggregations of semitones. This application allows the user to reproduce (i.e. both calculate and listen to) these intervals starting from an arbitrary frequency; but - above all - it allows to generalize the approach of Messiaen to a generic n-tone equal temperament, thus subdividing an arbitrary interval (possibly different from the octave) into an arbitrary number of elementary steps (possibly different from the semitone).
