MIDI files contain one or more MIDI streams, with timing information for each event. Track names and other descriptive information may be stored with the MIDI data. MIDI files supports multiple tracks and multiple sequences.
The specification defines the byte stream used in the file. This data may be stored as 4 or 7 bit codes as well as hex ASCII. Typically, though, a MIDI file is stored as a byte stream.
